A Month of Devotional Thought — Hestia: Day 23

Today’s topic is that I should share “A quote, a poem, or piece of writing that you think this deity resonates strongly with”. As I tend to see Hestia as one of the Theoi that is responsible for helping the other Theoi synchronize their efforts and maintain balance in the Cosmos, there are many that I could choose from to emphasize differing parts of that responsibility. However, there is one thing that Hestia remains no matter what else she is doing. She is a Goddess of the Home. So the quote/phrase I will focus on is “Home is where the Heart Is”

This in ancient times could also have been ‘Home is where the hearth is’ because so much activity centered around the hearth. The hearth was the “heart” of the home in those times, and in some ways even today. Is it not at the kitchen table that we gather for things like homework and meals? Are these not the roots of our family life? Is that not the essence of what is our “heart”? If it is than saying “Home is where the Heart Is” could be just as easily put as “Home is where Hestia Is”. And even when we travel away from home for business or leisure, there is always a pull towards our home — and by extension, Hestia herself.
