Earth Day — a modern holiday that honors Gaia

Divine Earth, mother of men and of the blessed Gods,
you nourish all, you give all, you bring all to fruition, you destroy all.
When the season is fair you teem with fruit and growing blossoms
O multi-formed maiden, seat of the immortal cosmos,
in the pains of labor you bring forth all fruit.
Eternal, revered, deep-bosomed and blessed,
your joy is the sweet breath of grass, O goddess bedecked with flowers,
yours is the joy of the rain, the intricate realm of the stars
revolves in endless and awesome flow.
O blessed goddess, may you multiply the delicious fruits,
and may you and the beautiful Seasons grant me kindly favor.

This is the Orphic Hymn to the Earth and one of the lines in it that stands out for me is the second one. Earth not only is the nourishing Goddess but the destroying one. And with the way that humanity is now not living in a way that is in harmony with Gaia, the perception that a lot of people are coming to is that Gaia is now becoming the destroyer for humanity with things like the changing climate which is bringing storms in areas that traditionally have not had them and droughts in areas that have become important to the production of fruit. These extremes are not going to go away while the majority of the population do not understand that Gaia is a LIVING Goddess and that we need to honor her in our actions.
Even little things add up and we need to teach our children this.
