Hestia — more than just the Goddess of the Home

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you might have noticed that I write on Hestia more frequently than many of the other Hellenic Gods. The reason for this is that I actually feel a strong connection to her and feel that ‘someone’ has to speak about things relating to her.

One thing that I have been reminded of recently though is that she is not just the guardian of the home, but is actually one of the guardians of community. While others among the Gods are “protectors” of the Polis (community) from negative influences, Hestia is the glue that holds the community together. It is this glue that gives our communities strength. It is also Hestia that helps promote the understanding of individual problems that the community can help with — even if that help is not physical, but rather emotional and spiritual.

There are some wonderful people that Hestia has put in my path to remind me of her role. Today I thank her for their presence.
